American Diplomacy is an online quarterly founded in 1996 by Dr. Henry E. Mattox and Ambassador (ret) T. Frank Crigler. The journal is published by American Diplomacy Publishers, Inc. in cooperation with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill College of Arts and Sciences’ Curriculum in Peace, War, and Defense, and with the Triangle Institute of Security Studies consortium.

The journal is open-access. Our goal is to inform readers about international issues and diplomacy, to promote greater understanding of the Foreign Service and the role of diplomats, and to encourage readers to consider a Foreign Service career. American Diplomacy contributors and content editors include U.S. and foreign diplomacy practitioners as well as independent observers and scholars. We also provide a platform for rising students in international affairs through a Student Corner.

Journal “Commentary” includes analyses of American foreign policy and international affairs. The “Eyewitness” section provides a window on life and work in the Foreign Service through essays, interviews, and oral histories. Our “Books” feature highlights new publications. We also provide links to articles and organizations of interest. Opinions expressed are those of the individual authors and do not represent the position of American Diplomacy, which maintains its founding principles of balance and non-partisanship.

Journal archives contain more than 2000 published articles. Readers can access this material via a search engine or the journal’s geographic and topics indices. Annually, the journal receives over 200,000 views around the world. American Diplomacy is also carried by the following resource databases:  ProQuest, EBSCO, and Gale Cengage.

The journal is published quarterly. Subscriptions, which are free, provide alerts to new content on our site.

We invite readers to follow us also on Facebook and on Twitter @Amdiplomacy.
