American Diplomacy readers who are former members of the U. S. Foreign Service should note that the American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) is updating its 1996 book, Inside a U.S. Embassy: How the Foreign Service Works for America. The goal is to give greater publicity to the important role of the Foreign Service in designing and executing American foreign policy. To complete this project, AFSA is soliciting essays (600 to 800 words) from retired American Foreign Service personnel that will reflect the importance, dangers, and sacrifices of Foreign Service life. Articles should be based on events that took place from 1990 to today. AFSA is especially (but not exclusively) interested in accounts of experiences relating to recent historical events. Deadline for submissions is April 1. For more information email Inside Embassy Editor Shawn Dorman at dorman@afsa.org.End.
