The Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved by voice vote April 13, 2010 the Peace Corps Improvement and Expansion Act of 2009 (S 1382). Sponsored by Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT), the bill would require the Peace Corps director to develop a strategic plan for improving and expanding the Peace Corps, including:
1. Strengthen Peace Corps management capabilities and program effectiveness;
2. Expand volunteer opportunities; and
3. Increase the size of the Peace Corps.
The bill will now move to the full Senate for a vote.
