Brian Wilson has called our attention to the 15-year old campaign for a treaty to regulate the international transfer and distribution of lethal Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), a treaty that our Secretary of State Clinton has rightly endorsed.

However, the National Rifle Association (NRA), in opposing such a treaty, has gone international.

This excerpt is from the NRA website of November 25, 2009: “…generally, the NRA does not concern itself with foreign policy or arms control initiatives–except to the extent they would directly or indirectly affect Second Amendment rights. We have been actively opposing transnational efforts that would limit Second Amendment freedoms.”
Does the Constitution follow the flag? It’s an old question, and the NRA is determined to protect what it sees as the 2nd Amendment right of U.S. citizens to export lethal conventional arms to other countries.
